Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.

Important Details: 

-This training is only open to Florida residents who work in a healthcare setting.
-This training will occur virtually in one, 8-hour time period on Friday, June 7th, 2024 from 9:00am-4:00pm EST.
-You must attend the full session in order to be certified as a Youth Mental Health First Aider.
-Your camera must be on for at least 90% of the time, per certification requirements from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
-There are about 90 minutes of required pre-work to complete online before the training date. 
-This training is part of our Certified Well-being Ambassador Series. 

Registering on this event page is the first step to attending the training, however, please note, approved participants will receive an email 1-2 weeks prior to the training inviting them to login to an account the MHFA Connect Portal (a LMS). This will allow you to complete the required self-paced pre-work in the Connect portal before the training date (this pre-work takes approx. 90 minutes to complete). You do NOT need to create your own Connect account- we will do this for you and send you your login info. 

A Zoom invite link will be sent out to participants in a separate email, before the day of the training, provided they have completed the required pre-work.

* 6.5 CEU hours are available to Florida Certified Recovery Peer Specialists and Community Health Workers (CCHWs). Other healthcare professionals may be eligible to apply for CEU's after attending the training via their unique licensing board.

*We reserve the right to cancel this training if less than 6 registrants are in attendance on the day of the class.
