Certified Well-being Ambassador Program FAQs
Q: What is a Certified Well-being Ambassador?
A: A Certified Well-Being Ambassador (CWBA) is equipped to make a positive difference in their community. A CWBA has a basic, non-clinical understanding of mental health challenges. They are trained to listen and connect with others to provide support that leads to empowerment and revitalization. They have access to and provide information on supportive community resources to others. Importantly, CWBAs also understand the necessity and benefits of practicing their own holistic self-care.
Q: Who can apply to become a Certified Well-being Ambassador?
A: Anyone who has completed all three trainings of the Mental Health Awareness Training (MHAT) Series:
- Mental Health First Aid (Youth or Adult)
- Emotional CPR (Hybrid or full-length)
- Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) training (Orientation to WRAP or Seminar I)
Q: Where can I take the training?
A: The training required can be taken through PSCFL or another organization that offers it. To find an upcoming course offered by PSCFL, visit our Training Calendar.
Q: What is the cost of the required training?
A: *Due to grant funding restrictions, only Florida residents working in the healthcare field (including Peer Specialists) are eligible to register for our grant-sponsored (free) Mental Health Awareness Training Series.
All other individuals are encouraged to become CWBAs by attending our open training or submitting eligible course certificates from other training providers.
Q: What is the cost of the certification?
Certificates are valid for 2 years.
For Florida health care workers, initial certification is covered under the program. There is a $25 renewal fee.
For all others, certification and renewal are $25.
Q: How can I apply?
A: For those medical professionals participating in our MHAT program — after you have completed the required 3 trainings, you will need to upload all 3 certificates to your PSCFL Membership Profile using these instructions. Most PSCFL certificates are uploaded automatically; please check to make sure your certificates are there. You can then apply for CWBA certification.
For all others, after you have completed the required 3 trainings, and checked that your certificates are in the membership portal, you can then apply for CWBA certification.
For missing certificates or help with uploading, please get in touch with membership@peersupportfl.org.

Q: What are the ongoing requirements for maintaining certification?
A:
- Community of Practice Sessions for Well-being Ambassadors will be held quarterly (4 times per year) as an opportunity to learn from one another, practice skills, and discuss successes and challenges encountered in using the skills you’ve gained through training. As a requirement, you must attend at least 1 of these per year.
- You must also obtain at least 8 hours of Continuing Education yearly in any well-being-related topic.
- You must apply and pay for recertification.
Q: What are the steps to certification?
A:
- This certification is only open to PSCFL members. Sign in to your membership portal here. Register here if you are not already a member.
- This document walks you through the process to upload your certificates into your membership portal for Wellness Recovery Action Plan, Emotional CPR, and Mental Health First Aid trainings. If you took your training with us, your certificates may already be on the portal.
- Complete the certification application and indicate that you will comply with the requirements of certification.
- Look for notice of approval from PSCFL after we check for required elements.
- If you have participated in the MHAT program, your certification fees will be covered, and your certificate will be uploaded to the portal. If you are not a part of the MHAT program, you will be directed to the Store to purchase the certificate. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE THE CERTIFICATE UNTIL NOTIFIED OF APPROVAL.
- After verifying your uploaded training certificates and certificate purchase, PSCFL will make your CWBA certificate available in your membership portal.
